Sybil,

One thing to check, perhaps above all else, is if it uses 3.3volt DIMMs. I
repaired/revived an Apple PPC 4400, and might have kept it but for the high
cost of those oddball DIMMs. There are but a few of these 3.3volt DIMM
machines, and I believe Motorola's StarMax line is among them.

Keep in mind, when I priced out 3.3volt DIMMs they were much more expensive
than regular RAM, and may be less now. And also, I'm in Canada where
mail-order shipping prices sometimes negate the use of vendors in the U.S..
Some don't ship here at all, and others charge as much or more for shipping
as the price of the product itself.

Finally, check out Dan's lowendmac as was already mentioned, and perhaps
"everymac.com" too for more specific details. One bonus may be the use of
IDE drives in some StarMax machines. IDE being cheaper and all. That was the
case with the PPC 4400... not sure about that Motorola 5000 though.
