R.A., I'm preparing to go with a RAID myself even though the speed boost is reported to be smaller than we'd like (25% rather than close to 100%); see <http://www.macworld.com/2002/06/reviews/raid.html> and also <http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE.html#raid> for mixed user reports. Since the price of the Sonnet ATA66 Tempo RAID card (~$70) is now practically the same as the non-RAID version, this isn't too much of a letdown for the cost IMO if you're working with big files (I _think_ you'll find the ATA100/133 RAID cards closer to $200). The Sonnet, Acard and SIIG RAID cards are all made by Acard. As for a non-RAID IDE card, I've been using the Sonnet Tempo Ultra ATA66 for about a year with a master and slave on each channel, the only problem being an apparent low power situation solved with an UPS. One of the slaves is a CD burner, a configuration which apparently has not been successful for some people (the Tempo Ultra card is in Slot A, firmware version 3.08; Yamaha 2100E CDRW; OS8.6). Read the archive or ask the experts here about PCI slot/card issues. Briefly, some cards or card combinations work in the upper 2 slots while others do not.
