While that is a lot of money it is cheaper then the older/ slower
upgrades were when they first came out. It will be interesting to see
how well they work in our old machines. I had an idea someone would
do this . Anyone thinking about buying one?
Sonnet is also releasing a new Tempo ATA PCI card which has
an IDE hard drive mounted on the card! So no cables etc needed. It
sounds like a simple nice idea. Reading the details I'm not so sure
anyone really needs it. They are using 2 1/2 inch drives ( Powerbook
drives) as the 3 1/2 inch ATA drives are too large but this means
they are 4200 rpm drives slow by todays standards and the deal
breaker as far as I'm concerned they are not bootable! They also
allow you to hook up 2 ata drives with a cable. So they are really
just the same as an ATA 133 tempo card with a slow non bootable drive
added on. Prices start at $220.00 for the 20gb model. Not such a good
deal IMHO. Later Will S
