Howie,

Sound Volume allows me to slide the volume up, but then it just snaps back
when I release. 

Soundsource allows me to open the sound control panel, where I get the
notice that something else is controlling the settings.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, Neither solved the issue. I did a
restart after each change. Something still has control of the sound settings
and won't let go.

I think I'm doomed to live with a silent Mac.

Any other ideas? Thanks.
