Being a clone, the Umax machines need some explanations. TheSMs used FWB
software as drivers for the CD and HD, rather than the Mac Drivers
contained on a Mac system CD. You could hack a Mack 7.6.1 CD driver, buy
the current FWB drivers or buy Intech Drivers for the CD and hard
drives. Some Supermac hard drives would not run with Apple drivers, also
requiring a hack or Intech drivers- it depends on the drive. Further,
you can't instal from an OS disk made for a specific Mac computer. You
need the "over the counter upgrade disks" sold by apple, not ones that
came with someone's computer. The issues involved are the commands in
the ROM on the different system disks. You can learn more on these
topics by reading the list archives. Once you have a workable CD driver
and HD driver you should be able to load a system OS, be it 8.6, 9.1
etc without problems. Once the driver issues are understood most
everything else runs just like a "real" Mac. Paul
