I've been wondering about this. My conspiracy-theory guess is Decision One. They were an outsourcer who provided all of our field service (badly). By mid '98, Umax Technologies (the horrendously managed scanner division) had assumed responsibility for all finances associated with the SuperMacs. They stopped paying Decision One's bills around August or September. When the past due amount approached $1-million in October or November, Decision One said, "Pay up, or kiss the $5-million in service parts we're holding for you goodbye." Umax didn't pay. Now, a few weeks ago, I contacted a number of parties at Decision One to ask if these parts were still in their possession, and if so, if they had any vehicle for selling them to interested, private parties. I never heard back from anyone, but this may have lit a fire under them. My more Earth-based guess is that they're direct from Umax. It looks like Umax Technologies has moved out of Fremont, CA, and that's where the last known batch of SuperMac parts resided. This could have been the final purging.... -Kennedy -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
