I have to put a plug in for the Pioneer DR-506S which I put in my S900. I
don't even know if they're still available, but it's a slot loading (like an
earlier iMac), 32x CDROM that is bootable, and very quiet. (It wouldn't
install OS X though, I had to use an old SCSI Yamaha CDr, don't know why)

After my kids kicked off two of the S900's doors, breaking that teeny weeny
hinge each time, I just knew that an open CD tray would eventually get
kicked as well. The slot load Pioneer was a no-brainer for me as a result.
Luckily it turned out to be a champ in every area including DAE.

If anyone ever sees one for a good price, you won't be disappointed with it
as a replacement for the Matsushita.
