I was likely so busy with installing Jaguar (OSX 10.2) I missed your post!

Waiting for the root device...It is waiting for the CD rom to send it
data and it's not happening! This could be a problem with your cdrom
player which would mean your not going to be able to install with it
or what version of XPostFacto are you using? beta 15 and 16 don't
work with the 10.0.3 version of OSX. I'm guessing this is your
problem! I recommend using XPF beta 7 with this version of OSX.Also
beta 14 is suppose to work but I've not used it. You will need to
wipe the drive partition just use disk erase in the finder and use
HFS plus to format the disk. Be sure to use the packages that come
with beta 7 to do the install. It will likely fix your install
problem.

Doing a pram reset starting from machine off may work. This is
option+apple+p+r keys held down wait for at least 3 bongs maybe five!
Try it a couple of times! The real fix for the black screen of death.
Remove the battery unplug the machine for 10 plus min. Hold down the
cuda switch for 30 sec plus put the battery back in plug in a quick
cuda push for luck and away you go. Works everytime for me and I have
done it dozens of times but have found Jeff's pram setting key thing
now works most of the time but takes several tries.

See above (the cd install disk is the root device it is waiting for)
It's not showing up because of likely either the wrong version of XPF
or perhaps the cdrom player won't work with this version of OSX. The
first is more likely.

I am running out the door soon I hope for a much needed long weekend
so no more help from me for a few days anyway.
I recommend you join the Unsupported OSX Lowend Mac group.
It is getting better all the time. After all Jeff W, Nancy, Ford and
Dan S from here are now all members. A couple of thoughts on the
group. Nearly all of them are using Apple machines which solutions
for maybe different in some cases. One Apple machine user thinks my
black screen of Death cure is bogus( I've been using it with great
luck soon after my first install of OSX on June 27, 2000 yes 2000 is
correct) There is at least one crazy person who has attacked me for
my posts at least 3 times but not lately.I'll be the first to admit I
get a bit dingy from time to time and sometimes make mistakes with
info. Especially when I've been up all hours for a couple of days
trying to solves some problem or another.I don't seem to be able to
stop trouble shooting until the solution is reached...I also seem to
come up with some of my best solutions working like that. Strange but
true! That was not the case with the crazy person attacks . Best of
luck. I hope the above info helps. Will S
