Hi all,

I have a build-your-own hardware questions.

Some time ago, we picked up an external Apple CD-ROM drive. We pulled
the CD drive to put in the c600, so we would have an Apple ROM/bootable
CD drive. Zero regrets on that change!

I recently picked up a used/bare SCSI 4/4/16 CD-RW drive. I would like
to put it in the empty external CD drive case. The empty case has no
fan. Does anyone know if I need to add a fan? There is a reasonable
amount of space inside the case, between the CD enclosure and the back
of the case, where the cables connect. Or, would adding some air
circulation vents (holes) be sufficient.

Obviously a CD-ROM drive does not get that hot, as no fan was necessary
for the original read only drive. But, our LaCie drive has a fan in it
that sounds like a small plane engine. So, it obviously does need a fan.

It would be really handy to have a CD-RW drive hooked up to both of our
computers, so I am hoping some of the more hardware oriented readers can
offer some advice.

Nancy
