Welcome!

I am application developer specializing in low-level programming. I am
generally interested in PowerPC architecture (as well as other RISC
architectures). I have found PPC machines from Motorola and IBM quite
expensive. Same applies to original Macs. Therefore I decided to get
UMAX S900 machine. Due to that I have some questions about:

1. What is implemented in S900's OpenFirmware. I understand that it is
version 1.0.5. What can I do with it?
2. My plan is to buy machine without MacOS installed. I want to boot
directly some *nix environment, maybe *bsd or linux. Which of them may
be directly booted from this machine (without any need of HFS partition
or MacOS components) using OpenFirmware?
3. I guess this machine is originally equipped with ATI Rage 128. Is it
true? what other Gfx cards will work on it (including usable
OpenFirmware without additional terminal connected)?
4. Am I forced to work with ADB keyboard and mouse? are there any cheap
or easy-to-make PS/2 -> ADB converters?
5. Is there an USB card for this machine? How is it supported on given
OS'es?
6. If I will upgrade cpu to G3 or G4, will it be supported without any
help from MacOS?
7. If I will buy some ATA card, will it be supported by OpenFirmware (so
that I could boot from it)?

That's all for a while :)

With best regards,
