Hi Bolton,

They are a part of the System suitcase [file] itself. It sounds as if that's
what's damaged. If you can, replace it with a backup copy or re-install.
Damaged or corrupted driver partitions could cause the System to be
unreadable, often an indication that the hard drive is on it's way South.

There's a check box in the 'General Controls' control panel where you can
set the preference for startup behavior after an improper shutdown.
