If you have a local Frys, the price seems to be about $6 there.  At 
least the last time I was there (a few weeks ago) the 1/2AA batteries 
were $5.99.  We just got a Frys last year.   It may not be geek 
heaven, but it's at least a very nice geek amusement park.

One must be careful picking out the battery at Frys as they also 
carry the same battery with axial leads and one could grab the wrong 
one by mistake.   I think the IIX or IICX used the 1/2AA with axial 
leads.
