This may come under the heading of "Dont Try This AT Home" but here
goes. I have been running the clock on my old C600 with a 6 volt
lantern battery. Please let me finish. The battery was partially
discharged (to about 5 V potential) by using it in series to power a
boom box during an ice storm last winter when the normal supply of
flashlight batteries was being hoarded ( a whole nother story). To
connect this battery to the motherboard connector you need a plug from a
dead computer battery and some extra red and black wire. (Obviously if
you don't have a dead battery you don't need to do this.) Connect the
wire to extend the leads outside the case and, taking care to observe
the correct polarity, connect the leads to the battery of your choice
and plug onto the motherboard. Not as handy perhaps, but more along the
lines of crude but effective.
