Hmmm. The page didn't translate well for me, all I got were the pics, some
Japanese (?) text and the Sonnet software speed readings.

So, do they just change that socketed crystal? It looks like that is what
is happening.. Also, I couldn't get my J700 to come up with a bus over
55MHz. Of course that is already overclocking the CPU so that could well be
the problem. I also lack a 56, 57, 58MHz etc. crystal to test things
with. However I'm convinced of the utility of faster bus speeds, things
improve noticeably here with faster bus speeds in terms of video refresh,
flash movie playback and 2D acceleration in games. They improve more than
the CPU speed increase alone should provide. I'd be willing to go for the
1GHz mark, which it looks like you could acheive if you could get the box to
run stable at 62MHz. Well, since I have done the J38 hack I can now disable
in hardware the onboard cache if I need to-that might help :-D Wow, a 1GHz
SuperMac! It would probably give my 1.1GHz Duron PC a run for its money in
some areas-its a given which box is nicer to use in terms of UI design etc.

I think that setup, with 512MB Ram and some USB2, ATA100, and ATI cards
would make for a very happy SuperMac indeed.. I just need to score that
last PCI slot so I can use all five.. Firewire, ATI video, USB2, UWSCSI,
ATA100.

Alternatively, there are IDE to firewire adapters you can buy, they are
about $55 each, that connect to your IDE peripherals such as hard drives,
CDROM burners etc. and convert them to firewire. They're marketed as being
useful to solve IRQ conflicts etc, but since our hardware isn't lame, we
don't have to worry about that :-) Has anyone tried such an adapter with
their Mac, and does it work? It would be cheaper to do thiat for my CD
burner, which works just fine and is IDE, then to buy an IDE card, or a SCSI
burner. Just thoughts.
