OtherWorld Computing has posted a benchmark test on their web site in the
form of a PhotoShop Action Macro.  You can download the action and run it on
your machine under PhotoShop 6 or 7 then compare your results to those
listed on the web site.   The URL is:

With PhotoShop, the amount of RAM in your system is a big factor in the
amount of time an operation takes.  when PhotoShop runs out of RAM (and it
will), temp data is swapped out to disk, taking much more time to process.
I would venture that the amount of installed RAM is equally important to the
speed of your processor.   Plus, RAM is cheap, and G3 upgrade cards are
cheap (depending on your concept of cheap).
