Hello People, I have been monitoring the list for a little over a month now and I must say that I am impressed by the knowledge and experience found here. A brief background - Mac user since 1986 (Mac Plus, IIcx, LC475, Quadra 840av, PM8100, UMAX C600, Wallstreet 233 (the infamous "no-cache" version). In addition, we have a Toshiba laptop and a HP desktop here at home. Finally, a Dell laptop and dual processor SGI Octane (IRIX 6.4) at work. Lots of user experience, but not a computer guy (an Aero). Current home machine (and favorite) is the C600 which is in dire need of an upgrade. My question is: Has anybody tried to stick in a 128Mb DIMM in one of these C600s? According to the book, it can only handle 64Mb sticks (total of 144). Since the 128Mb sticks are only a few bucks more at OWC, I would prefer to put in a couple of these. The guys at work think that the 64Mb limitation was because that was all that was available at the time it was made. If I install a Sonnet G3 upgrade, will it be able to see and use the additional memory? Also considering sticking in an older 500 Mb SCSI drive to use as dedicated VM. This will probably result in a performance hit. Comments?
TIA, Jimmy Current configuration: C600/200, 32 Mb, 2Gb IDE, 18Gb SCSI, OS 8.6. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
