Hi Scott,
Go to the system folder and from the system prefs file, trash the 
finder prefs, Mac OS prefs and system prefs. Then restart and if that 
doesn't help, try zapping the pram with the option-Apple-p-r keys 
depressed at restart to the 3rd bong. You can also try rebuilding the 
desktop by holding down the option-Apple keys at startup. HTH.
