The cable connector on the top of the card may interfere with the CPU card support plastic. A little careful trimming can relieve that problem. Second, the 250 MHz card runs a bus speed of 50 MHz and some 8500s just won't do 50 MHz bus speeds. This is a rare condition, but it happens.
