The Apple 8500 has Video on the Motherboard the S900/J700 does not. So 
the issues are different on different machines.The fact that the 
machine works in OS X means it is very unlikely the motherboard is the 
issue .
Check out Robyn's post for somethings to try. Will S
PS. How do you boot from OSX to OS 9.x? I find that when in OSX holding 
down the option key and rebooting gets me into OS 9.x every time.
