Using the the same cable internet connection on my S900 with 10 Base T and on my roommates iMac with 10/100 Base T, there is no difference in speed. I asked him about this (networking is his job), and, apparently, your tasks at home would have to be pretty demanding to require the upgrade. However, if you happen to have a few 68-pin SCSI drives hanging around the house, then I guess the Umax E100 upgrade could be worthwhile.
