I am about to install a Maxtor 120 gb HD, I also have Jaguar ordered and

As far as the G4 is concerned, I want to know if is possible to
install Jaguar on the new drive and use it as a boot drive. Apple, in
the owners manual, says to configure the drive as a slave. If done that
way, however, can I then install Jaguar on it and use it as a boot
drive? <SNIP> Paul Shuck

Paul,

To address the G4 with 2 internal drives, the answer is yes, either drive is
bootable; as well as an external FW drive. This on a G4-500, a couple of
years old. Depending on which G4 you have, the installation is not exactly
straighforward, but not that difficult either.
