There is a program called VueScan. (URL was www.vuescan.com, but seems to be gone right now). It costs $40, but is a very good program. Works with tons of scanners, including just about every Umax scanner made. You'll need to do a little digging to find it right now, I'm not sure about the state of development, but I had downloaded it just a few weeks ago.
