Gee, that might have been _me_ <G>. There are _some_ of us out there who have been Mac users for many years but have absolutely NO "PC-experience" at all. I started with Apple //c in 1986 and moved to the Mac a year later. I'll admit quite honestly that I know next to _nothing_ about PC hardware or software or operating systems. One of the attractions of the Mac platform (and what _remains_ a strong point of the "Classic" Mac OS vis-a-vis OS X) is that you didn't have to be "PC savvy" to get up to speed on it and maintain it. I do very well with the Mac. But --- faced with a PC --- I might as well be facing sanskrit. Which is absolutely why I chose to stick with Mac: truly, a computer for "the rest of us". I have no intention of _ever_ moving to another computing platform. It was easy enough to "gather the files" when the PC-to-Mac Radeon flashing story "broke". I've done that, I _think_. Some of the "story fragments" were ... shall we say .... cryptic in nature. Just trying to figure out what to do with the downloadable DOS files "package" is/was trouble enough. It contains the following files: DOS4GW.EXE FLASHROM.EXE FLASHROM.ROM flashrom_commands.rtf info7000.rtf mac7K.bin Just trying to open the "rtf" files is a job -- IF you don't have a copy of Microsoft Word available (I don't). Fortunately, I had a demo copy of Mariner Write 2.1 which I was able to open them with. I tried my best to "clean up" the fractured English, and got the rtf files printed out on hard copy. Since I don't own a PC, I will have to use _somebody else's_ computer on which to do the "first flash". Of course, I want to _leave_ their computer "untouched" and undamaged afterwards. Question: how does one get a Windows computer to boot "into DOS"? Is it a universal command that works with all versions of Windows out there? I'm _assuming_ that one can just copy the above files to a PC-formatted disk, which can then be taken to a PC to run them from, correct? (Already have done that, created both 720k and 1440k DOS disks, and put files on both of them.) I'm not even certain how to _access_ a floppy disk on a PC in DOS once I can manage to get the thing booted up. Can someone explain what to type at the "c" prompt to display a floppy's directory? OK, so I've got the floppy directory displayed. At least I know that -- on the PC -- a file suffix ".exe" is an executable program. But there are TWO ".exe" programs here: DOS4GW.EXE FLASHROM.EXE I will assume that the "FLASHROM.EXE" is the program that actually writes the "mac7K.bin" code to the ROM on the card, thus making it "Mac-recognizable" and completing the "first flash" that the PC is needed for. What is "DOS4GW.EXE" for? I'll leave it at that for now. What to do with the card when I get it to the Mac will be the topic of another posting. I've ordered the Sapphire/Radeon 23mb 7000 PCI DDR "clone card" from newegg.com, and if I can get it successfully udated, I will post a detailed, step-by-step account of how to get it flashed and working on both platforms that virtually ANYbody will be able to duplicate whether they've ever touched a PC or not.
