I've had to focus on a few other priority projects over the last few days
but I did want to respond here. Others chime in.

Over the last few years as the idea for posting a Supermac FAQ has been
raised, I do recall some references to posting it on Low End Mac, but I can
only assume it didn't develop because Dan already has hundreds of pages to
manage. Then, creating a FAQ for one type of computer, could also lead to a
FAQ for every computer type being hosted here. Equaling an undesirable
workload increase. So I assume (sometimes risky, no doubt) that this is why
the idea never found a home here. Dan, please inform me if I am incorrect.
Dan, you are also invited to assist, please inject any ideas you might have.

A few weeks ago I decided to run the concept by Kennedy since he has been
developing the Supermac site http://home.earthlink.net/~supermac_insider/
and he previously worked at Umax. Seemed like a perfect fit to me. Putting
this together will require intellectual contributions from many people. Of
course, this seemed better than one person carrying the burden to organize
everything. And to get there, Pastor Mac offered the temporary hosting at
his site http://www.calvin.edu/~msm3/umax/Umax_Memory_Project.html for the
editing & design purposes, which keeps the workload off of Kennedy until a
complete product is ready for final posting.

Of course maybe Dan Knight will want to contribute somehow to the process.
Maybe even provide a link? But, as I was looking over the Lowendmac page, I
see he is already doing just that. I take this as an endorsement by Dan for
the site Kennedy has put together specifically tailored to Supermacs.

Anyway, what we have now is a viable process to get the Supermac FAQ Project
done. Something that did not exist in the past. It just needs a little
organization along with EVERYONE'S individual contributions. We've got good
momentum thus far, and I for one hope people keep providing ideas. I think
that's the most important thing right now. Getting the ideas posted, that
way individuals can volunteer to take a topic on. There are some key people
on this list whom I KNOW can contribute greatly to this project, and who
also lobbied for an FAQ in the past. Guys, and you know who you are :), now
is the time to contribute your ideas and writing skills. The process is
there, it's what you wanted.

I should add that while we may get a whole bunch more 'proposed' topics than
needed, that's OK. Should we be fortunate enough to have a really long
list, we 'as individuals and as a group' will decide which are the most
important. Later, I will have developed a simple method to allow everyone
to literally 'take a vote' on which make a final 'FAQ' list.

Olli-Matti, I realize that some of this is more than you asked about, but it
was a good opportunity to post.

I for one am looking forward to the step by step process on installing OSX
on our machines. (Unfortunately I'm also in limbo-land in regards to my
video card and have been sent one wrong card (2930) and one bum ATI card off
of ebay. So I wait again for yet another replacement or refund. Too bad
this Sapphire issue hadn't surfaced before I bought. :( )

Anyway, let's keep the ideas rolling in. It might be helpful if a couple of
listers would volunteer to scan Kennedy's Knowledge Base article titles when
he gets it ready. No doubt there are many items there that would meet the F
(frequently) AQ's criteria. And while as he said, many are five years old,
the information will be important so as to reduce redundancy and generate
ideas.

We'll get this done one step at a time if everyone contributes.
