Identify the chip, go to the chip manufacturer's web page, download the datasheet. >there are different flash chips on the market, some can only be flashed 5 >times, others 25 times, then others can be flashed 100's of times. That would be a pretty useless flash chip. All the flash chips I've ever seen are rated for at least 10,000 writes. Perhaps you're thinking of some DVD drives which can only have the region changed five times. That's not a limitation of the flash chip, it's a hack built into the software.
