Hello all! I'm trying to set up a 100baseT network between two
machines, and have run into a problem. I recently got a PowerMac G4
dual 867 machine, and so therefore, I will be relegating my J700 to a
backup/server role. I wanted to get a fast ethernet connection between
the two machine (both running OS 10.2), so I picked up a D-Link
DFE-530TX+ 10/100 NIC for the Umax, and a D-Link DSS-5+ 10/100 switch.
Things started going badly from the moment I installed the driver for
the D-Link NIC on the Umax, and my USB mouse stopped working. (!!?!?!!)
I tried another USB mouse to no avail, and then routed around in the
closet to find my ADB mouse, which worked fine. I got the network all
set up, but every time I tried transferring a file, it would drop the
connection. Both machines reported their NICs as being active at 100
Mbps in duplex mode (which the switch supports). I know I have all the
setting correctly, because when I hook the ethernet cable to the built
in 10baseT in the Umax, everything works, including printer and
internet sharing. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a 100baseT network
working on a J700/S900 under OS X, and if so, which NIC they used, and
if anyone else has had this problem with a D-Link card. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
