I am trying to use the supermac disk that came with the unit

Mike,

Is it an original Umax disk? Mine says system software w/the umax logo
etc....

If it is, then it contains the correct driver for the original cdrom ON
THE CD. One way to check this is to boot from the zip with the cd in the
drive (put in the tray before power-on) - If the cd mounts to the
desktop, then the correct driver is present ON THE CD. Put the cd in the
tray and power off the machine. Power-on while holding the c key. watch
the activity light from the drive - it will flicker and then become
steady as it loads the OS from disk. Alternate: after the first flicker
of the drive led as the scsi bus is reset, hold down the c key as above.
Alternate: hold down cmd-opt-shift-(scsi id # of cd drive) Alternate:
connect serial console and boot into Open Firmware and tell machine to
boot off of the correct device node.

All of these depend on the correct driver being ON THE CD. If it is a
copy, then it must have the driver descriptor map copied from the
original intact.

*note to FAQ people - this subject should be #1*

HTH,

tom
