Hi Paul
Yes, I think that is what I did.  I found this little piece of 
something but I don't know where it goes. It looks the same as the two 
little black things next to the pin connector for the scsi cable. Could 
it have been soldered on somewhere? If I plug the scsi cable back in 
will it work without that chip? The CD-ROM is a Matsushita CW-7501-B. 
Will the whole thing blow up if I try hooking it up again? Back to the 
drawing board!
