This would be a tough call given that the 9700 is not shipping for the Mac yet.
In the PC world the fastest between the two is the 9700. The successor to the GeForce4Ti is the GeForceFX which will not be shipping for the Mac any time in the near future. There are two versions of the 9700. I am unsure which ATI will ship for Apple, there is the 9700 and the 9700 Pro. The GeForce4Ti has three models, the 4200, 4400 and the 4600. The 4600 model is shipping for the Mac. The 9700 is an 8X AGP card, the GeFoce 4Ti is a 4X AGP card. I would wait for the 9700. Since you are getting the newest that Apple has to offer, you might as well get what will be in theory the fastest video card between the two.
