 Are you by change using a ix3D Video Card  with ver. 2.00.616 software
installed? The IX3D Extension caused the same symptoms with the finder on my
S900. I disabled this extension and stopped getting the finder quit message.
 TechTool Pro reports this extension to conflict with OS 9.x
