Dan's right. I use my modem for a couple things other than Internet. I have a database program (OSX release due this quarter) that I use in my business every day. It dials the phone for me when I need to contact a client. When I hooked up a modem to the computer, it couldn't see it to dial to. And my STF software broke too. I also use the serial ports for midi which I doubt I can do either. I assume there is or will be USB-midi interfaces, so it looks like I'll be buying more than just a computer when I get one... when all my kids are out of college.Do a search for a program called Cocoa eFax. It worked great with my system. I doesn't matter what modem you have, as long as the OS can see it (and use it for standard dialup), Cocoa eFax can use it.
From what I recall, it could handle faxing text, TIFF images, and PDF files.

I think what Steve asked is, can you also fax from your modem in Jaguar? I have a GV modem that is operational...it would connect if I used a dialup service. But I can find no fax software that works with it or another brand seriel modem in Jaguar. If anyone knows a fax app or modem/app combo that works in Jaguar please let me/us know. I've gone to Fxstf's (spelling?) site and downloaded their latest version and as I found out from one of their techs and my own struggles, it won't even load in X, it goes to classic but then won't work as a classic app either. Their site says, after some digging, that Apple has not provided the means to make faxing possible? (my paraphrase). So any contrary info would be appreciated.

By the way, what ever happened to linking computer directly thru Ma Bell like we did in the old days when we wanted to share files. Or dialing up a library directly and browsing their holdings? I can still do that in OS9 and the libraries still provide the service. Of course it can be done over the net now too.
