How many pins the monitor has is irrelevant. It is up to how cheap the
manufacturer got the vga connectors. Some companies assemble their own
plugs and will have only the number of pins needed for the monitor to
work. Others will purchase premade vga connectors that have all 15 pins
installed, and all they do is connect wires to the needed pins. Even if a
monitor did have all 15 pins on the plug, not all the pins would be
connected, some monitors will have a different number of pins, some pins
are common ground pins.

Having givin you thouroughly boring background, I have a Compaq monitor
that I've been using for years. It has all 15 pins and has worked fine on
a PM6500 w/adaptor (I've used 2 different adaptors), PM8500, S900 -IMS
TwinTurbo using both the VGA and Mac adapted ports, S900 with a
Radeon7000, S900 w/ Matrox Millenium, and a Quadra700.

On these systems, I have also used an IBM monitor that was missing one or
two pins (I forget exactly how many), that monitor hasn't given me
problems either. A Samsung Multisync3 also has worked well, and although
it has all 15 pins, only 8 are used. I built the cable for this one, so I
know how it is connected.

More than likely you are having a software problem. I haven't been
following this thread, so I can't really help much. And although I'm sure
you've heard this already, make sure that you install the video cards
(especially the Radeon) in on of the top two slots.
