I can second, third and fourth that experience! SBC supplied me with a version of EnterNet so old I discovered it will run on a System 7.6 68k Mac. I kept it installed (but normally disabled the extensions) just in case I needed to call them for for help and not have to explain my router setup. Truth be told it was also handy to be able to connect without the router as that can sometimes be flaky too. Favorite question from the on line tech (I was using an iMac): "can you see the light on your NIC card?" On the other hand perhaps they've upgraded, but if so they've yet to contact me. Even more important: SBC has a Mac OS "connection utility" that is designed to tell you the state of the DSL network, offer troubleshooting advice and whatnot. It was horribly unstale for me and looked like a nasty application. Stay away from it (it's usually a optional download, but perhaps these days it's bundled on the CD they give you.) I forget the name of it, but note I'm not referring to EnterNet or MacPoet or whatever else they have you logging in with these days. Mac OS X's PPPoE works great but if you're running OS 9 a router is the next best thing. They can be found for cheap; get one! -David -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
