So it looks like no software conflicts and no hardware installation conflicts. Sounds like bad karma (that's a technical term for coincidence, I think...), and time to dig into the motherboard.
I tooled around Kennedy's page (very impressive!), but found nothing specific for the c600. I also looked into Jeff Walther's page, and, again, nothing directly for c600 and audio (again, very impressive body of work!).
To recap, I have a c600/180 with a G3/400MHz Sonnet accelerator running Mac OS 9.1 on a 40G ExcelStor HFS+ (ATA, single partition), internal hp 9210i CDRW (SCSI, replaced OEM CD), internal Zip 100M drive (SCSI), Ethernet card in slot A1 and USB card in slot B1.
Rather than randomly searching around the c600 motherboard (which I've done with a flashlight looking for a burn mark -- can't fault me for trying...), does anyone on the list have a suggestion for _logically_ searching the hardware for the source of the fault?
Many thanks for your ideas,
