That's nice, but I still maintain that the Sonnet Crescendo (NuBus PPC
G3 upgrade) causes the Startup Disk Control Panel to crash under 9.1.
My point is, Sonnet acknowledged no such occurance there, so there
might be a similarity here.

At any rate, where to start? Unless no one has the answer, start over
and remove all the upgrades and have a fresh OS handy on an external
drive or on another internal HD.

That is, after you've re-verified that the volume isn't turned all the
way down or muted. Note too that some versions of the OS need to have an
input source selected in order to hear anything, even if the input
source is internal.
