The short answer would be, no, you can boot only with the original Umax system CD....

Your Matshita CD drive is not Apple ROM'd, if that is the correct jargon.
I run Disk Warrior from and external SCSI CD burner, using the CTR/OPT/Shft/Del keys
during bootup and then holding down the #3 key as soon as the smiley face appears for
booting into 9.1.
For 7.6.1, I think it is the #1 key, but not absolutely sure - depends on your DW
version.
If you have easy access to a SCSI CD drive or burner, your troubles will be over
sooner then the hacking and other workarounds some folks have had success with to
make the Matshita drive bootable.
