One then do not chase a auction!! Be patient wait until there less 30 minutes in the auction. There all too many people over paying for these cards.
Pick a maximum that you are willing to spend and then stick to it. I agree with Richard that it's best to bid in the last few minutes--I usually wait until there's about 15 seconds left. There are many folks who don't place their maximum bid or haven't given it any thought and so are willing to bid higher every time they see that they have been outbid. By bidding at the last second, you deny those jokers the chance to nibble the price up.
