Jeff:

This was exactly the case.  I downloaded the firmware from OWC, upgraded the
card and voila.  It not only shows up in OSX, the drive connected to it
boots Jaguar.  Not sure if it was a converted card or not, but I did acquire
it second hand from a member of the LEM swap list who may have done the
conversion. Thanks a bunch.
