Thank you R. Barker. I did not know XPostFacto has finally release version
3. In addition, I will try setting the throttle at 8. I think that may be
the issue since it was set to 0 prior to install. I will report my trials...

Sorry to be contrary but XPFacto 3.0a3 or 4 is far from a final version. In fact the "a" stands for Alpha which comes before beta ;-) I see no reason for you to use it over the current final version of 2.2.5 . It is a test version for people wanting to test the boot from a Firewire drive and boot from Cd features. Which do work on some machines including our UMAX with some set ups. It is good advice to use Apple drive setup. While it's true FWB shouldn't be used for OSX it's across the board not because our machines are unsupported. FWB in fact was the standard formatter for our Machines when they were new and FWB was a great Mac software company back then. HDST is fine on our machines but a waste of money since the free Apple drive setup works well.
Things I would check as to why your install of OSX wouldn't work with the G4 upgrade. Missing software that would only be installed if the G4 was installed at the time of your OS install. Speeds over say 300-350 range stress older and out of spec RAM. Also the G4 in general will stress RAM. Even RAM that will run at faster speeds in OS 9.x will sometimes fail to work with OSX at faster speeds or with a G4.
The throttle feature works to slow the CPU down at boot time otherwise sometimes the CPU moves too fast for the hard drive with faster CPU upgrades. CPU goes back to normal fast speed as soon as machine boots. Best of luck Will S
