Hi everyone?

I have a J700 which still has the original 2G hard drive, floppy, and CD
drive. It has a supplemental 8 G hard drive also. Running 9.2.2 with a
Newertech G3 500 and 280M of RAM. It is our primary computer and has been
very reliable for years.

My wife was using it today when an application on the original 2G HD
crashed. Upon restarting only the partitioned 8 G drives showed up on the
desktop. Luckily the system folder is on this one. The original HD does
not show up with DiskWarrior or Norton. With the FWB HD Toolkit 4.5, the
original 2G Quantum drive is identified but nothing can be done with it. It
is unable to recognize its size, however, saying it has 0 MB. When
restarting and on random occasions, this drive makes a "buzzing" sound. It
always does it on restarts now. It did not do this previously. The green
light on the HD is erratic. Is this drive most likely shot?

I attempted to disconnect the drive so my wife could take it to her school
district's technician to see if he could at least save the data, if
possible. When removed however, the computer will not start, proceeding
only to the Mac icon.

Any ideas where I should go next? If saving the HD is hopeless, what might
be a "cheap" option in replacing the orig. drive? Thanks!
