The S/J-series and C-series each had their own ways of maximizing memory
performance.

In the S900/S910/J700, FPM (Fast Paged Memory) was specified and it could be
interleaved by installing paired memory (same size and speed) in
corresponding banks (A1 and B1, A2 and B2, etc.). Memory interleaving gives
about a 10-15% performance boost in memory-intensive functions.

Per spec, EDO (Extended Dynamic Output) will work in these machines, as EDO
is merely a sub-set of FPM memory (one additional bit defines EDO, and this
bit is simply ignored in FPM machines), but the S900/S910/J700 will derive
no additional boost from EDO. I say "per spec" because there's some
real-world evidence from this list that it doesn't always go over so well in
these machines. I've never encountered such problems myself nor in UCC's
test lab.

In the C500/C600, EDO is preferred simply because these machines get their
10-15% boost from EDO, rather than from interleaving (they can't
interleave). Per spec, FPM memory should work just fine, but with slightly
sub-optimal performance.
