The reason why His Steveness is back at Apple is because Ellen Hancock convinced Gil Amelio to buy Jobs' NeXT rather than Jean Louis Gassee's (another former Apple guy) Be. Steve wasn't in the picture until then. Only after Be folded did Apple then acquire some of Be's intellectual property.


Just a passing thought--what would the Apple world look like now if Be was bought over NeXT? I don't think Apple would have survived.
