Hey Listers, done a little reading on the "PCI Extreme Hack" and wanted to know
if anyone has "seen" the benefits and/or problems with it. especially for those
using the Radeon Sapphires, I haven't found any remarks about this on the web.
And can anyone explain how to "correctly" apply the hack with our S900/J700's
Download PCI Extreme 2.1 from http://pages.cthome.net/zacks/ and install it. Reboot. You're done.
It makes the GUI much smoother and responsive, but some people report worse performance in things like Quicktime movies and DVD playback, things like that. I don't do much of the former, and none of the latter, so I've always used it.
Plus, now that I have a B&W G3 with a 100 mhz bus and 66 mhz PCI video slot, even watching Quicktime stuff works perfectly.
It's easy to un-install also, so if you have problems, you can quickly revert back.
Dan
