I just replaced my Sonnet Tempo Ultras ATA66 card with a SIIG, Inc Ultra ATA 133/100 card that I got from OWC for about $75. I had to buy the card because the ATA66 card would not drive the Pioneer DVR-106 "SuperDrive" that I also recently acquired from OWC. The ATA133 card controls the burner fine. For whatever reason, I can only burn from my hard drive, not straight from another CD. I just make a disk image, no problem.
As far as what slot it works best in, when I got the card I was planning to put it into one of the lower slots. However, when I went to install it, the hard configuration of the card, the footprint where the card fits into the PCI slot was different than than the PCI slots on the motherboard. I agonized over this for quite a while... How could this be?... the box said, "for Macintosh PCI?' I was about to send it back when it occurred to me to try to plug it into where the other card was, the top PCI slot. I pulled out my ATA66 and sure enough it fit into that slot. So... unless I am way off, and really missing something, that card will, physically, only fit into the top PCI slot on the S900, because of the PCI pin arrangements on the card itself and the motherboard. I had to scrap my plan to have both EIDE cards in my slots. I am hoping another list member will back me up on this. That's how it was for me.
And, Jeff, thanks so much for continuing to hang out here and spew forth fountains of information, stimulating exciting technical discussions, which allow people to move forward with their equipment. I would have been dead in the water so many times without this list. Thanks to everyone else here, too.
Happy Holidays,

I know we discussed this within the last couple of months, but I can't remember the details.
Does the Acard based ATA-133 card work in the lower slots of the S900/J700? And how is its compatibility with ATAPI (removable media) devices such as CDROM and DVDROM drives?
I've been looking for a replacement for my VST UltraTek/66 card, but as I recall, the earlier cards that work in the lower slots weren't so hot with the ATAPI support. And some of hte cards (those with Firmtek firmware?) don't work in the lower slots.
The Acard based ATA-133 is the SIIG, Acard and (I think) Sonnet cards. Not so sure about the Sonnet. Firmtek's web site claims that there is an UltraTek 133 and I'd like to know who sells it, so that I can avoid it.
