Hi Mark, I'll add a little bit more info for you on installing a drive in the s900.
You have a couple of different options. 1) Install it under the cd drive if you have room there. Because the hard drive is only 3 1/2" wide, you will need to get a small side mounting rail and screw it to the side of the drive. This will fill the gap between the drive and the side of the case. Your tower may already have one in there behind one of the 5 1/2" front plastic covers. You'll just have to take off the side and front to find out. Make sure that when you install the drive there, that you leave a small gap underneath the drive so that you get some airflow across the drive logic board. Same goes for the top of drive. If you don't have one of the rails, you can try some out of a pc but not all will fit so it may be a little trial and error. 2) An alternative drive bay is just under the floppy drive. If you're lucky, you will still have the plastic drive sled in the case to allow you to screw the drive to and just slide it in. If not, this location can be slightly hazardous as the drive is not exactly stable and can slide out onto your processor. Not a good thing. If you've got this cage, this is a great out-of-the-way place to mount a drive and it provides for easy removal. For the above two, you will need some hard drive screws. If you don't have any, any computer shop will probably just hand you a few at no charge. Act like you know what you are doing so they don't try to charge you a $. Just say you got another drive and misplaced your screws. New drives also come with them. 3) In the bottom-front of your case, you will see a plastic cage. It's a little difficult to open up but it does. You can put a drive between the cage and the front speaker. The drive will be standing upright which is ok. You should monitor the temp of the drive here because there isn't as good of airflow here. The cage will also hold a small fan which will help. Also be sure that your drive settings are correct. You didn't mention the type of drive. If you are using scsi, then you will have SCSI ID and Termination requirements. If IDE, then Master and Slave rules apply. > Do I need a sled to install an extra hard drive in an S-900? Screws? Sorry > for the neophyte question. Where do I get them? > > Mark > Hope this helps.
