try to figure out which bus. start by unplugging extra hard drives, and cd rom drives, testing as you go. then start removing ram to make it faster testing try removing half of total ram and test. if problem goes away swap halves and work to narrow down, save time by swapping half of the half (one fourth), etc. also try to get more air movement through computer with extra fans in case a bus controller is experiencing heat related problems. even a cheap $5.00, 5-6" fan on desk blowing at unit helps. Its possible that the battery was on the shelf awhile, i think it was this list where someone said to test battery under load (power unplugged, battery plugged in).
