Thanks for the link David. It appears my suspicion was correct - seems to be
there is an issue with Panther, although so far Apple is only admitting
there are problems with FW800 drives, and mine is FW400. (Just had a thought
- the machines I hooked up to at work are G5s, so that end is FW800 ...
hmmm).

One odd thing is that my experience is sort of the opposite of the current
posts - they describe a scenario where data gets lost when booting up with
your drive hooked up to a machine loaded with Panther.

In my situation, the drive works fine in Panther (although in both cases I
have hooked up the drive after it has been booted); it is only when I try to
take it back into OS 9.2.2 that the problem rears it's ugly head. So far
I've only lost data that can be re-captured from video and was able to back
the other stuff up, but have wasted several hours on this problem thus far.

I'll keep the list posted on any developments.
