Hi,

I recently installed an internal EIDE 120Gb drive in my S900 and then
installed OS9.1 on one of the three partitions. I've left OS8.6 on the
original 2Gb drive that came with the machine. When I boot up from the EIDE
drive in OS9.1 everything is fine at first. CDs load and are recognized and
I can access their content. At some point after that while I am working away
I notice that the icon for the CD that is loaded is no longer displayed and
I am unable to access the drive or the CD. To eject the CD I have to press
the eject button on the front of the drive. When I attempt to use FWB
Mounter on the drive I get a message saying no driver is loaded although the
driver is in the extensions folder and enabled. When I run 8.6 from the
original SCSI this does not happen. The CD ROM drive functions perfectly for
as long as I am on the computer. There is something else that happened while
I was installing the EIDE drive that I should mention. My S900 manual said I
had to disconnect all the cables from the CD drive in order to swivel the
bay housing around to gain easy access to it. I disconnected the first two
cables without any problem but when I tried gently to unplug the last one on
the left which is a white plug with three very thin wires attached to it the
last wire on the left came out of the plug. It looked like it was being held
in there by a tine metal clamp. So I twisted the end of the wire into a firm
extension and reinserted it back into the opening from where it came loose
and left the white plug in place. (I realize this is not an ideal
connection.) I was able to swivel the housing enough to easily install the
new drive without pulling any wires taut. Does it sound like this wire
having come loose and being reinserted may have caused a problem? Any other
ideas anyone might have as to why the cd driver is not recognized some time
after the initial bootup will be appreciated. Thanks.
