Well ... even up to a week ago I swore that I wouldn't go to OSX unless
upgrading to a new computer. However, two things changed my mind: an
incredibly bad streak of breakdowns (computer peripherals, vehicles, furnace
blower, you name it, etc.) have ensured the computer upgrade won't happen
until at least the fall, and the fact that DVD Studio Pro 2 is >so< much
better than v1.5 (but only runs on OSX).

Recklessly I jumped into the fray a couple of nights ago, downloaded
XPostFacto v2.2.5 and started the install of Jaguar. I did install it on a
separate 4GB drive connected to the internal SCSI bus (one partition for
OSX, another for 9.1 Classic as per the instructions), but throwing caution
to the wind, didn't bother pulling PCI cards, etc.

Everything installed properly and OSX booted up virtually without a hitch!
DVDSP also installed and appears to be working (although I haven't really
put anything through the paces yet, so it might be too early to tell -
Apple's minimum requirement states a G4 700Mhz processor - ha!).

So far, the only hardware that doesn't appear to be recognized is the Initio
Miles 9100UW card, which is unfortunate as that's where the majority of my
free drive space is. Apparently there is a driver update for this card/OSX,
but it will only work on Rev. F and mine's a Rev. C. Oh well, I've been
planning to pick up an OSX compatible ATA card and 120GB drive anyway, so
not a huge deal.

Now to the questions - apologies if these are somewhat basic and/or have
been covered before:

1) Is there any advantage to using "Classic" mode rather than just
re-booting into OS9.2.2 off my other hard drive? For now, the majority of my
computing will still be done in OS9 and I'll only be using OSX for those
apps that need it (DVD-SP2, iPhoto, etc.).
In other words, can I wipe off the OS9 I installed for Classic mode and use
that drive space for OSX apps?

2) Can I use Retrospect in OS9 to back up my OSX partition (so I can
reformat that drive for one partition) and then restore OSX back onto that
drive?

3) Is there a way to check and see if the L2CacheConfig is actually working
in OSX?
