Hello
I have done this, before installing the system 8.6, you might want to make a copy of the "cd toolkit extension" and put it on a floppy. Any system, I think above 8.1 will change the cd application and once the new system software is loaded you won't be able to load any new cds. I take put the new version cd/dvd extension out and put the old one back in the extensions.

When you load the 8.6 software, it will put your old system software into a folder that says previous software or system folder (it should leave all of your applications/programs alone), but you will want to check through the previous folder items and make sure nothing needs to be put back. I normally put back the CD Toolkit that is in the previous files control panel back into the new system software, the previous prefs, extensions, etc. Hopefully I have not made this more confusing. Once you have everything from the previous system folder that you think you might need, then you can dump the previous system folder.

As a note, I find the supermacs seem to like system 8.6 better then 9, it has its good points and negative ones, but for me 8.6 seems to be more stable.
Diane
